8606 in action on our Return to the North Tour last year.
Retired well before their time, the final years of operation of the 86
class electric locomotives of NSW are captured in this video. Filmed
between 1996 and 2003 mostly in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney, the
86s are shown on a wide variety of freight workings. As well as the
final years the video records the last run - for now - of an 86 on a
revenue service and beyond: the mass movement of electric locomotives to
Silverton Rail is covered, along with the Sydney Electric Train Society
(SETS) tour to Kiama and Olympic Park, masses of 86s in storage at
Lithgow, the delivery run of 8606 to SETS and finally, the first run of
8606 as a preserved loco on a SETS tour. Duration 60 minutes. Filmed in
