The Mark 1 Comeng double-deck suburban cars have been part of the Sydney System since 1972. From their days in tuscan red,
blue and white, Indian red and now plain stainless steel, their days are numbered, with the trial of the first ultra-modern
Waratah A-sets now under way. Here's your chance to not just ride in, but photograph these veteran double-deckers on this
unique tour!
We intend to use a four-car S-set, featuring two Mark 1 C3805-series power-cars and two T4700-series trailers. Starting at
Strathfield at 8.25am we will run semi-express to Berowra via the north shore, then south via the Epping-Chatswood line
(the first time a railfan tour will visit the ECRL) to the newly-duplicated Cronulla branch for lunch by the beach.
Afterwards, we head for the Airport line via Turrella then reverse at the Tivoli crossovers near Central, before ending
the day at Strathfield about 3.50pm.
There will be ample photostops along the way (including the ECRL), so if you have been meaning to get plenty of photos or
footage of these veteran cars, here is your chance!
