C-set Stock Preservation
C-set
The officially preserved C-Set Electric Multiple Unit cars are C 3584, T 4266, T 4274 and C 3608 which are being preserved by SETS as part of our collection. These former SRA-era electric trains were the final gleaming stainless steel double deck suburban cars made and are the most technically advanced main line rollingstock preserved in NSW. See our C-set page for more information.

The S sets lead to the distinctive Sydney gleaming stainless steel double deck electric trains look, that was seen on the system for over 50 years. Other cars preserved include C 3805 and T 4150 for museum display. S28 - C 3986, T 4050, T 4013 & C 3765 as the official operational preserved set for Transport Heritage/Sydney Trains. S56 - C 3001, T 4101, T 4961 & C 3862 are officially retained as an additional 4 car set held by Sydney Trains.

Future Electric Stock Preservation
As regards planned preservation of other 1980s electric stock, the current policy for the NSW State-owned collection is:- "Our Transport Heritage NSW Collections & Curatorial Committee has recommended no C or K sets be retained, however that a four-car interurban V set be set aside for future heritage operations and one trailer car for static display." So like retention of a complete Monorail set, it appears that preservation of examples of K-set and other 1980s electric trains will be left mostly to SETS.

SETS To Introduce Magnetic-Stripe Ticketing On Tours !
Sydney's magnetic-stripe ticketing system and TravelPass will continue in operation on SETS and HCVA excursions. SETS have arranged a new production run of magnetic-stripe Excursion Day-Rover tickets as illustrated. SETS is now able to issue and validate magnetic-stripe tickets, to both the public and enthusiasts, on our special event bus and train excursions.
The reintroduced STATS system and our new ticket stock was first trialed on the HCVA's MAN midi night wharves tour held on 28th June 2019. This was the first time since 1st August 2016 where Sydney bus passengers could use magnetic stripe tickets in a green machine. The original equipment was reinstalled in the preserved MAN 3683 bus by SETS.

Fleet News
Information about SETS' 8606 and 8649 and events in their lives, as currently the only operational electric locomotives in NSW...
In case you are wondering, it has taken the skills of around 30 people from 8 organisations to recommission 8606 and keep it in service. Our thanks to everyone who has helped, particulary to Pacific National, Progress Rail, Lithgow Railway Workshops and SETS members and volunteers. Also thanks to all our supporters and photographers. Yes, a passenger trip is being worked on.
