UPDATED INFORMATION - 20th JULY 2019
We now have over 350 passengers booked. This will be the biggest electric train event since our 86 class Farewell Tour held on 7th September 2002.
For those attending our Farewell S Set tour tomorrow, we recommend that you plan to arrive early to Central - not less than 30 minute prior to departure. If you have not yet booked a ticket we would suggest you arrive not less than 45 mins before departure.
Drinks and snacks will be available for purchase on the train throughout the afternoon. We would request that you bring plenty of small change with you to make things easier for our volunteers.
There are no toilets on the train. Please make use of the facilities at Central before boarding the train. Some some stations are expected to have toilets open where the train makes extended stops.
If you have not booked, and wish to pay on the day, please use your card in the first instance, or alternatively please bring the exact fare in cash, as no change will be available at the ticket sales table on the platform.
FINAL CALL - LAST CHANCE !
The Mark 1 Comeng double-deck suburban cars have been part of the Sydney System since 1972. They were joined by later Comeng series and then Goninan built double-deck cars. From their days in Tuscan red, blue and white, Indian red and gleaming stainless steel, as the backbone of the Sydney suburban fleet, they will soon all be just a memory.
This SETS S-Set farewell trip is your last chance to not just ride in, but photograph the very final revenue service run of these vintage double-deckers, on this unique tour!
We currently intend to use an eight-car S-Set. The final train consist will be advised closer to the event. The trip will start at Sydney Central at 12:30pm. We will first run semi-express to Hornsby by the main north, then to Olympic Park via the goods line. We then proceed to Emu Plains, thence take the y-link to Liverpool. From Liverpool we proceed to Central and then to North Sydney via the underground and Harbour Bridge. From North Sydney we enter the Waverton shunting neck, to visit the North Sydney Car Sidings. We then return via the Harbour Bridge to end the trip at Strathfield about 18:20. A full timetable will be advised in due course.
There will be many photostops along the way, so if you have been meaning to get plenty of photos or footage of these vintage cars, here is your chance!
THIS WILL BE THE LAST OPERATION OF AN S-SET BEFORE THEY ARE FORMALLY DECOMMISSIONED !
We have now reached 300 passengers booked on the SETS S-Set Farewell Tour. There are still seats currently available. If you are coming, we request you still book in advance by card to save time on the day and avoid any disappointment. This will be the biggest electric train heritage event in many years - you must be there!

The day also includes a separately ticketed morning media-spectacle triple parallel-run event (not involving SETS). The triple event includes the preserved Sydney Trains red set (carrying passengers), some or all of the S-set we are using in the afternoon (carrying passengers), and the newest Waratah set B24 (not carrying passengers). See HERE for more information on the morning Three Generations Farewell Run event. The morning event trains will arrive back at Central in time for the final SETS S-Set Farewell Tour.
