THE DETAILS:
This tour will give everyone a rare opportunity to look "behind-the-scenes" at the Diesel-Electric Locomotive Maintenance Centre (Delec) at Enfield, to see first-hand the workings of this extensive maintenance facility. Afterwards, we will revisit the former passenger, and now goods only, branch line to Sandown. Fellow SETS member and noted railway historian John Oakes will provide the commentary for this leg of the tour.
Travel will be by chartered ex-government bus, first to Delec where a guided tour will be conducted. Don't miss this opportunity to see the variety of locomotives at Delec, including the RTM's electric loco 4638, and any suburban electrics that may be around for wheel-lathe attention.
After a break for lunch at Parramatta, we will retrace part of the route of the Parramatta-Redbank Wharf steam-tram line (closed in 1943) before visiting the Sandown line. Please note that there will be certain guidelines to be met concerning photography at Delec, and appropriate leather footwear is to be worn (no sandals or sneakers).
THE FARES ARE:
Adults $35, Concessions $30 and Children (16 - 18 years) $20.
Please note the Delec portion is strictly limited to 20 people, so please book early to avoid disappointment!
Our bus will depart from Sydney Terminal outside Platform 1 at 10:00am. Pick-up at Strathfield (north-side bus-bay) at 10:20am. We will return to Central at 5:00pm.
A Booking Form is available to print out and mail with your payment.
