We hope you are excited and ready for tomorrow's event!
Firstly this will be a big event, with around 250 passengers expected for our 8-car gleaming stainless-steel double-deck electric train !
Here's some general information to help the day go smoothly...
- The Tour Train will be arriving at Strathfield at 11:07am and we will be departing at 11:12am. We expect it will arive on Platform 3 but do not assume this and check the indicator boards and station announcements. Try to arrive at least 30 minutes before the train arrives for your convenience.
- If you are arriving by train PLEASE CHECK FOR TRACKWORK that may affect your travel as the Tour Train cannot wait.
- Please make use of the toilet facilities at Strathfield before we depart as toilets are not available on the Train. We have arranged for the toilets to be open at the following stops; St Marys, Springwood, Katoomba, Mount Victoria, Westmead, Fairfield, Strathfield, Hawkesbury River and Hornsby.
- The onboard SETS shop will have a range of Chips, Chocolates, Muffins, Drinks, and a selection of Sandwiches. We all also have a small range of merchandise available to purchase. We highly recommend that you bring plenty of change and small notes to use in the on board shop, as our change will be limited. We will have eftpos available but its use will incur a 2.2% surcharge.
- We are also running a raffle for the day. Tickets will be available from the shop.
- Please note that in line current Covid restrictions, all passengers over the age of 12 will need to wear a mask (which will be supplied). Hand sanitiser will also be available for use at each doorway.
- All passengers will also be required to sit only in seats marked with the large green dots during the tour, to ensure that social distancing guidelines are met. Families may sit together.

The 56 Suburban Chopper Cars "C-Sets" were the final series of gleaming stainless steel double-deck electric trains built for the State Rail Authority of NSW. They were constructed by Goninan's at Broadmeadow. They entered service from July 1986, and were considered as prototypes for the Tangara trains which followed them.
This first SETS C-Set Celebration trip may be your only chance to not just ride in, but photograph the a Chopper Suburban Set on the Blue Mountains, on this unique tour!
We currently intend to use a four-car double-deck C-Set. The final train consist will be advised closer to the event. The trip will start at Strathfield at around 11 am. We will proceed along the Western Line to to usual suburban limit of Emu Plains, and then up the Blue Mountains Line, to run as far as Mount Victoria. This is the first (and may well be the last) time a fluted stainless steel suburban train will travel through the Blue Mountains, so it’s not to be missed!
We then return to Emu Plains and proceed to Harris Park, after which we take the Y-Link to travel to Fairfield. From Fairfield we return to Strathfield via Granville to arrive around 4:40. Passenger may disembark at Strathfield at this point if they wish.
NOTE: The trip has then been extended to run North from Strathfield to Hawesbury River station via the main North, with the train then returning to Strathfild via the same route, to conclude the trip at around 7.49 pm. A full timetable will be issued on-board the train.
There will be many photostops along the way. These are expected to include, St Marys, Glenbrook, Springwood, Woodford, Katoomba, Mount Victoria, Wentworth Falls, Valley Heights, Lapstone, Westmead, Fairfield, Strathfield, Cowan, Hawkesbury River, Hornsby and Thornleigh. So if you have been meaning to get plenty of photos or footage of a C-Set, here is your chance!
Light refreshments will be available on board the train, with a variety of drinks and snacks available. Please be reminded there is no lunch stop, and there will be no toilets on the train. Please make use of the facilities at Strathfield before boarding the train. Station toilets have been requested to be open at all of our extended photoshop locations.
Due to the on-going COVID19 pandemic risk, and to ensure everyone's safety, all passengers will be provided with Australian-made P2/N95 non-vented facemasks. These must be worn by all passengers aged 12 and above while on the train, except when actually eating or drinking. Passengers will also be spread out and socially distanced within the train. More details on our COVID safety plan will be advised closer to the event.
